What comes to your mind when I talk about a baby’s room? Attractive colours, lots of toys, and a child like feel to the room. Though choosing colours and designs for your baby’s room can be quite fun it requires a good amount of planning. The first step while designing your baby’s room is to do your research well in advance. This means that you will need to browse through the net and collect information about various styles in vogue, see pictures available, and also read articles just like you have been doing right now! However, here is a word of caution: Avoid getting over influenced by one style just when you are on the research stage as this will make you blinkered and you will eliminate other good options at the beginning itself. Now that you have done your homework and are an informed customer, start visiting stores and getting opinions from near and dear ones and even from interior designers if that fits your budget. Remember that it is not always necessary to hire a professional. Enthusiastic parents can also design the room all by themselves. This also lets you explore the creativity in you and personally, doing things my way always gives me a greater share of excitement than going the conventional way.

Personally, for walls I feel one could use colours like sky blue, light orange, pale yellow, baby pink, light green etc. Remember to use a mix of colours such that the room does not look too formal. For example, in case you are using baby pink for the walls, get cupboards that are auburn or deep red and use bright red tones in purchasing items like wind chimes, toys, photo frames etc.

Use a lot of accessories while decorating your baby’s room but make sure you follow all the safety measures that are talked about in the previous post. There is a lot of variety of furniture available today that is specially designed for babies- Baby’s clothes rack, baby’s shoe rack, baby’s bean bag etc. You can hang planes, animals, stars, etc. to entertain the baby. It is a very satisfying feeling to a lot of parents to decorate your child’s room. It is a great memory for one’s life as well! So go ahead, splurge and give your best (to be) mammas and papas!
