Designing small spaces
Contrary to the popular belief, small spaces can be decorated and designed quite well. You can make more room for yourself while giving each space your unique creation.
The first and the foremost thing that one needs to do while designing smaller spaces is to make sure that you do not clutter or clog your room with too many things. Often people want to have every possible thing in their room. This may affect the designing of the room and ultimately lose the charm. Hence, you need to slim down. Get rid of furniture pieces like table tops, side tables etc that you feel are really not required. Instead decorate your room with a comfortable bean bag.
You also need to cut down on your bulky items like window shades, blinds or even shutters. They block the natural light that enters your room. What you can do instead is customize your curtains in fabrics that are in sync with your room’s décor.
If you have a large house then you have the privilege of using many colors. However, too much color in a small one can work against your limited amount of space. Hence, try and paint all the walls in one color or use tones and shades of same colour with few changes from room to room.
To light up some corners of your room, position mirrors directly across from a window. Use semi gloss paint to reflect the light and keep your furniture polished and your appliances clean. As far as your fabrics are concerned, use those that provide depth such as strips and prints. This is the part where you can experiment and decide what suits your décor the most.
