Trends in home decoration

There are number of home decorating trends. There are many styles that do vary from region to region but one thing is common in all the home decoration styles and that is the universal class and appeal of the styles. In a shrinking world, decoration styles are no longer restricted to a particular region. People are longing for new designs and they don’t mind adopting ‘different’ decorative styles. The home décor style initiated with primitive style that basically refers to an early stage of development. As the name suggests this is the most basic style of home décor. It includes handcrafted antique items, rag dolls and old wooden hay rakes etc.

Country style of décor has wooden dovetailed boxes, cotton fabrics, antique cotton quilts, stoneware bowls, woolen fabrics, hoosier cupboards and enamelware etc. the pieces of home décor are quite old but classic in nature. If you have seen rich brocades and velvets in walls, window dressings and future then it must be Victorian style of home décor. Victorian furnishing is complimented by mauves, burgundies, and shades of rich blues. Contemporary style is all about bold and bright patterns. It has mainly light-colored background. Accessories should have bright splashes of color. To compliment the contemporary décor, one can add abstracts and vinyl.

One of the popular and classy home decorative styles is French Country. Some of the highlights of this style are tiles on wall and floor, blues, rooster collections and an eclectic mix of elegance and rustic flavor. Art deco refers to the styles of 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Vibrant colors, metal furnishings, elegant lines and inlayed furniture etc were the hallmarks of this style. If you are fond of pastel colors, go for Cottage Country. Cottage type flowers, lightly covered windows and painted wicker etc are prime characteristics of this style. Some of the other home decorative styles are Eclectic, Traditional, Rustic, Mediterranean, Spanish, Oriental, Modern, classical and Whimsical.

Lighting plays a major role in overall effectiveness of the home interior. Spending on right light fixtures to a room can add value and beauty to the interior decoration. While you decide to use right light fixtures, think carefully about rest of the furniture and decoration in the room. For example, if you are more into contemporary art and fixture, go for modern light fixtures. Decorating these light fixtures in abstract style will add appeal to the decoration. Similarly, if you are a fan of antique artwork in a room, try using light fixtures that compliment to the antique style.

While you choose light fixtures, it is important not to blindly copy the fashion that is in. The interior decoration of your home is the only important factor that you should consider here. Try to be original in your choices. Like, you can go for light fixtures of different shapes because they can add a unique touch to your house. Some of these different shapes could be animals, plants or fruits etc. It is also likely that you won’t find such fixtures at any other place. So what’s the harm in being modern and different?

If you can experiment, then go for light fixtures in which you can place more than one bulb. Multi-bulb fixtures are ideal for kitchen or bathrooms as they tend to make room brighter. It can also be used for showcasing a beautiful artwork or flower arrangement. Choose your light fixtures depending upon your desire to make your room dimply or brightly lit. Some of the popular light fixtures are large swivelling lamp styles, or contemporary angular light fixtures with large covering and metal bordering. Smaller light fixtures can also be used depending upon what you want to highlight in the room or office.
