It is a sheer joy to watch blooming flowers from spring until fall. Once the sun starts to melt snow, vivacious flowers come to their full beauty and manage to enchant us. Flowers like daffodil, narcissi and tulip etc are the prized possessions of any garden. To find them blooming with the shades of scarlet and pinks, yellow and orange is a sheer delight.

Think of a variety of flowers like painted daisies, day lilies, Shasta daisies, lavender, pansies, hollyhock, phlox, dragon’s teeth, globe thistle, sunflowers and moonflower etc and you will be tempted to have all of them. The mere sight of blooming flowers is mesmerizing. Some plants are annual whereas some others are perennial or better call them seasonal. It is imperative to keep flowers healthy with proper care and maintenance.

To ensure the health of your garden, you need to provide plants with adequate water, sunlight and fertilizer if needed. Plants need to have their roots deep enough in soil so that there is plenty of room for their growth. You should also be aware of the concept of dead-heading which refers to simply snipping the dying bloom of the plant. This way, plant will be able to focus its attention on seeds creation. One of the best flowers for entire summer is daisy. It grows easily and if given proper attention, will keep you delighted all summer long. Roses are eternal favorites of flower lovers. It is important to indulge in deadheading and cutting flowers back for consistent growth of the plant.

Bonsai plants are essentially eye-catching. They look beautiful and add grace to your décor. But like everything else, they also need caring. If you think that just watering them will be enough then you are definitely mistaken. Bonsai are no less than ‘mini trees’. A well shaped bonsai is surely a delight to the eyes. To take proper care of your plants, you need to formulate a plan first. Straightaway pruning and snipping them away will not help the cause.

There is this “Rule of Thirds” that refers to a certain method for shaping the bonsai plant. It says that, ‘one should calculate total space of the plant and its container and thereafter, divide it into thirds both horizontally and vertically’. The resultant is proper ‘division of space’ that should be kept in mind while you prune your plants. This will also help you in achieving the desired results. A perfect bonsai plant should like a properly shaped miniature tree. The shape of its sides, front and back should be balanced.

Some of the basic requirements for bonsai plants are, watering them 2-3 times a week, moderate light and fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. Before watering, make sure to check the moss, whether it is dry. To maintain optimum moisture, a humidity tray comes very handy. To properly shape your bonsai, you need to keep in mind three important factors pruning, nipping and wiring. You must have a good pair of sharp pruning shears, scissors, copper wire and a pair of wire cutters at your disposal.

The function of pruning is to control the growth of the plant by getting rid of foliage and limbs whereas nipping helps in maintaining the shape of the bonsai. Pruning is an initial stage and when the plant acquires the desired shape, one needs to use nipping technique. Finally, wiring is used to bend and twist the branches so that bonsai gets its perfect shape. Implementing all these methods will help you in keeping your bonsai plants in perfect shape and size.

Many people find their homes incomplete without having plants. Plants can not only enhance the beauty of your homes but will also provide you enjoyment and satisfaction. Tending to your flowers can be an immensely satisfying experience. Plants need good care to adjust to your home environment. However, there are several small factors that need to be taken care of.

First thing first. Not all plants demand same amount of water. Every plant has different requirements and one should be careful about them. Factors like type of plant, size of it, country of origin, light and humidity level and room temperature etc affect the watering needs of the plants. You must learn the requirements of individual plants. Watering a plant is not at all a fix it all type of solution. If the plant appears stressed, you might be tempted to give it more water but at times, that can affect the health of the plant in a negative way. A plant has an equal need of air and water. If the root of the plant is affected, it can affect its ability to fight pests and fungal diseases.

The plant pots must have good drainage system. There is no point in keeping your plants in temporary arrangements. The pots should be such that it allows moisture retention, drainage and air movement. Houseplants tend to suffer more if you overwater them. Overwatering also causes diseases. Similarly, under watering is also not desirable. One of the proper methods of watering your plants is periodic bottom watering. Try to water your plants during early morning time. Compared to foliage plants, flowering plants need more water. Keeping all these factors in mind will help in maintaining good health of your plants.

Who wouldn’t love a house surrounded by lush green trees and flowers spread all around? In fact, that’s the dream of many a person who would give a hand or two to live in such houses and situations. But then, we also have to cater to growing population and decreasing space. Now, owning such houses are more like a mere fallacy and perhaps only the rich and luxurious can avail such facilities. Now a day, what we have is apartments and flats with just balconies, in the name of outdoor space. Well, you cannot do much in such conditions but remember you always have the option of bringing nature indoors, by keeping indoor plants. These plants will not only bring some freshness in your house but also enliven the ambience.

So now that you have decided to go for indoor plants, it’s high time we talk about how to take care of them. Most of the indoor plants are quite okay with normal temperature fluctuation but they also grow at faster rate in cooler climate. So what you need to do is to maintain a cooler temperature at night so that plants grow appropriately. Ideally, night temperature should be kept 10 to 15 degrees lower than the day temperature.

Try not to have excessively low or high temperatures because that will adversely affect the plant growth. Indoor plants should have little exposure to light in an indirect way. You can also arrange for artificial sources of lighting. You will also need to rotate indoor plants on a regular basis so that all the parts receive equal amount of light. Bring your home plants outside once in every 15 days for fresh air. While watering your indoor plants, maintain the balance.

We humans are responsible for maintaining healthy condition of our surrounding environment. Yes, we can do a lot if the whole world is bent upon destructing climate balance but we can always do our own bit. This will not help us in saving time and money but will also give us self-satisfaction. All over the world climate is changing for worst. We keep reading about depleted ozone layer and emission issues apart from increasing temperature and rising water level in the sea but we are not doing much to save environment. They say, charity begins at home so why not start something from our own backyard.

One of the basic steps you need to take is to change all the incandescent bulbs in the house with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). This greatly helps in conserving energy. People might complain about CFLs being expensive but the truth is they use less energy and provide more light. As far as longetivity is concerned these bulbs are more reliable and last up to 8-10 times longer than regular bulbs. Another recommended step is to use clothesline to dry your washed clothes instead of drier. Remember, washing machines take lot of power so try using them only when you have full load of clothes.

The filters of your air conditioners need to be cleaned on a regular basis. This helps in reducing power consumption and also provides efficient room cooling. While heating water, try keeping temperature of the boiler to 60 degree C. This is another power saving tip. Whenever any electrical appliance is not in use turn them off from the main switch instead of using remote. Apply these timely tips and help environment.

Firstly, you need to purchase a small but healthy bamboo chute from nursery. Ideally, its stem as well as leaves should be strong and that would be visible from shades of light green. Dark green or yellow shade indicates unhealthy plant. Once the plant has been bought, you need to get hold of a container that could be a jar or glass. Make sure, the jar is transparent so that its roots and consequently its health are visible. Bamboo plant grows quickly so it makes sense to get a large container.

After placing the bamboo in the container, add some pebbles or stones around the bottom so that it gets properly covered. Then put some put some water in a way that few inches (2-3 inches) of the stem remain submerged in water. Whenever water level goes down add some more and it will remain healthy. Put the plant at an appropriate location where there is a balance in lighting. Bamboo plant requires balanced temperature and fresh air. Lastly, pay attention to the moisture level and frequent cleaning of the plant and container.

Environmental issues have become quite prominent in recent times. The effect of gas emission, ozone layer and dumping of toxic waste and the combined effect on us and our future generations have been greatly talked about. Under such circumstances, keeping our house green acquires even greater significance. So how can we make our houses green and how should we live green?

The solutions lie in reuse and recycle. Green Interior decoration demands our focus on recycling old furniture. We must be earth friendly and for that we need to introduce vintage furnishing in our houses. This is a wonderful way to show our concern towards environmental issues. Many of you would be wondering about where to find quality vintage furniture? No need to worry because there are several such stores available in major part of the cities. We can also search second hand store where pre owned furniture are available. There is certain benefit of pre-owned furniture pieces as they are already made and normally of higher quality. Compared to a newly made piece, old ones are more reliable and at the same time you wont have to look for additional resources of manufacturing. One can also get good resale value in future. Aesthetically also, vintage furniture provide great thrill. They are unique and can be used in unconventional way and you can always arrange them in a more creative way.

Keep shuffling the decorative items in your home. Modifying them is also an attractive idea. When you use vintage furniture, you are doing a great favor to environment as no new wood needs to be cut for new furniture. The old ones have been just recycled and thus you are making environment friendly interior. Using bamboo for green living floors and fabric is another wonderful idea. Many people prefer water based paint products because of environmental concerns. You are well advised to follow them as well. Lastly use air purifier and contribute your bit to the environment.
