There are many styles that do vary from region to region but one thing is common in all the home decoration styles and that is the universal class and appeal of the styles. In a shrinking world, decoration styles are no longer restricted to a particular region. People are longing for new designs and they don’t mind adopting ‘different’ decorative styles. The home décor style initiated with primitive style that basically refers to an early stage of development. As the name suggests this is the most basic style of home décor. It includes handcrafted antique items, rag dolls and old wooden hay rakes etc.

Country style of décor has wooden dovetailed boxes, cotton fabrics, antique cotton quilts, stoneware bowls, woolen fabrics, hoosier cupboards and enamelware etc. the pieces of home décor are quite old but classic in nature. If you have seen rich brocades and velvets in walls, window dressings and future then it must be Victorian style of home décor. Victorian furnishing is complimented by mauves, burgundies, and shades of rich blues. Contemporary style is all about bold and bright patterns. It has mainly light-colored background. Accessories should have bright splashes of color. To compliment the contemporary décor, one can add abstracts and vinyl.

One of the popular and classy home decorative styles is French Country. Some of the highlights of this style are tiles on wall and floor, blues, rooster collections and an eclectic mix of elegance and rustic flavor. Art deco refers to the styles of 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. Vibrant colors, metal furnishings, elegant lines and inlayed furniture etc were the hallmarks of this style. If you are fond of pastel colors, go for Cottage Country. Cottage type flowers, lightly covered windows and painted wicker etc are prime characteristics of this style. Some of the other home decorative styles are Eclectic, Traditional, Rustic, Mediterranean, Spanish, Oriental, Modern, classical and Whimsical.

Painting the ceiling of your home is as important as painting any other part of your house. It can appear simple and easy but it is not as easy as it looks. Ceiling painting requires care and consideration along with proper planning on your behalf. If done poorly, it can spoil the look of your entire home. Painting the ceiling in the proper manner is very crucial in making your household presentable. There are high chances of ruining the furniture or carpet if painting of your ceiling is ill-planned. So, let’s have a look at some of the important tips for ceiling painting.

The first thing that you need to do is to prepare your room before the painting begins. It is often an ignored part that can lead of wastage of resources. You would not like to clean up the mess afterwards. Move all your furniture to other room and arrange plastic drop cloth or canvas drop cloth to put over the floor. Place it properly covering the entire floor or base boards. Also remove all the ceiling fixtures and mirrors or wall arts etc to save them from any painting spillover.

Take a hard look at the surface and get rid of any cobwebs or surface dirt. Surface must be wiped a soft cloth. The ceiling can have water stains or rough patches etc. use right patching compounds before painting and allow them to dry. Use texture to give desired effect to the ceiling. In case of stains, use brush or stain blocker first. Primer will come handy in making the paint roll in a smooth manner. Always use good quality paint. Using these tips will make your painting job easier and comfortable.

It is not just furniture that needs maintenance, but walls and ceilings also require cleaning so that one can preserve their charm and beauty for a longer time. Furniture tends to lose their lustre over time. Hence polishing wood furniture pieces become important. Many a time, people also ill-treat furniture and its fabrics. This is most true in case of dining room furniture. However, with proper care and cleaning, furniture pieces can be efficiently maintained over the years.

Some people are concious about the space allocation and utilization in their homes keeping in mind that they will need to be cleaned and maintained regularly. Such is the planning that goes into designing a good home.

Furniture which is usually made of wood and consists of the bed, drawers, side tables, chests, mirror frames needs proper care. Mirror pieces need dry cleaning. Metal pieces should be cleaned twice once with a damp cloth and then with a dry one. Wooden and metal beds both can be cleaned regularly with a damp cotton cloth to wipe off the dust settled on them. Wooden beds may need a polish after some years to make the wood shine.

One should have indoor fountains pieces in one’s home as they act as natural air purifiers. As water circulates through the fountain, the dust and pollutants in the air are pulled out. The soothing sound of flowing water makes the environment calm and peaceful.

Side table and chests should be cleaned and wiped with a dry or a moist cotton cloth daily. This ensures that the tables do not remain dusty. In case of wooden side tables, one may need to get them polished after some time so that the shine and the glow of the wood are maintained. Special cleaning is required for bedroom for kids, as this is one room that may get dirty the most. Make sure that the furniture you select is easy to clean and does not have sharp edges.

Well, easier said than done. But at the same time, sometimes even minor but smart changes can completely change the appearance of the house. For example, take flooring aspect and you will find, it greatly affects the overall look of the house. Many urban households prefer to go for marble flooring because it gives a classy look. But then it has its cons as well like it is expensive and tough to maintain. Having said that, it makes sense to consider each and every aspect before zeroing in on certain type of flooring.

These floorings look great apart from being extremely environment friendly. Other benefits of bamboo flooring are its graceful and stylish appearance. It is quite durable as well. There are several ranges like vertical bamboo flooring, horizontal bamboo flooring, carbonized bamboo flooring, natural bamboo flooring, hand scraped bamboo flooring, tinted bamboo flooring and many others. So, the choices are plenty. Bamboo flooring is environment friendly as well. They grow fast and that way you are not endangering the forest cover at all. It looks very appealing and is almost equal to hardwood flooring. Bamboo flooring is quite durable and strong and gives a cozy and warm appearance to your house. It can last for years if you take care of maintenance factor. Other advantages are its water-resistant nature.

Wood floors sell like hot cakes. Many people prefer wooden floors because of expense factor and low maintenance element. Concrete flooring has always remained in vogue but wood floor has its own beauty. It changes the appearance of the house and gives a vintage beauty to the whole house. Quite easy to maintain, wood floors can never go out of the style. If you prefer wooden flooring, you won’t need to look after it continuously. However, they do require cleaning on a regular basis like every other thing but the time consumed will be much lesser than concrete flooring.

You will need to find out the exact finishing of the floor. There are different types of finishes. If it is surface-sealed then nothing like that. The beauty of this surface is their being water and stain-resistant. They require very less maintenance and all you need to do is to sweep and mop the floor. In many cases, floor is untreated. In such case, one needs to care it like the oiled ones. Try not to use too much of water because these floors are not very good at handling moisture. In case, floor is oiled then opt for floor cleaners and clean them with paste or liquid wax.

Use a soft bristled broom for daily cleaning. Once a week, try using vacuum cleaner. But be careful while using it as it can leave scratch marks. Alternatively, you can make your own homemade cleaning product. All you need to do is to half a cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Use dry damp mop for spilled water. Try not to wear high heeled shoes and don’t drag furniture because of possiblity of scratch issues.

But interior decoration has a vast range and there are several parts of it. This article will talk about floor. Few years back a floor was not accorded the importance as it is given today. It is no more a downtrodden place. It has acquired a significant importance in the realm of interior decoration. Nice flooring can set the tone and enhance the ambience. If you are still stuck with ages old flooring then it’s high time you start paying more attention to this critical part. Changing your floor is no more a difficult task.

Once you have decided to change your floor we can only compliment you on your good decision. Second, we will provide some options regarding flooring. Now, you no longer need to stick with old mosaic floor. Choices are many. The most preferred choice now a day is marble flooring. It has become a common sight in not only urban households but also in rural places. Most popular Indian marble is makrana variety. Before you opt for marble, look out for its quality. Avoid soft marbles as they develop cracks easily. If you can push your budget little higher then Spanish, Greek or Italian marble are the best choices.

Tiles are another popular choice. Ideal for kitchen and bathroom, ceramic tiles are available in several colors. The price range varies depending upon the quality. Ceramic tiles are need more care because once they are broken they cannot be repaired. In the slightly higher budget range, you can opt for vitrified tiles. If you are not really inclined towards tiles, then granite is another option. It is easy to maintain and quite sturdy. However, it has a dull look that’s why people prefer to mix it with marble. Lastly, wooden laminates is a very popular choice in hotels and homes. It gives that rustic elegance.

It is a luxury to have your own house in urban city. At the same time this luxury is often hampered by small outdoor area. But don’t they say, small is beautiful? Despite the fact that you have a small outdoor, you can always turn it beautiful with little effort. Decorating balconies is fun if you put in small effort and few natural elements. Leaving your balcony bare and empty is never a good idea. People can do wonder with little bit of creativity in their balconies. The first thing you need to focus upon is door. Nothing like the effect of a glass door that leads to the balcony. The best part about glass door is the illusion of space it gives. Even with a small balcony, the experimental glass door can look wonderful. You can also look out through that glass door all the times.

One of the best pleasures of balcony is good view you get. But if you are unable to get that, you can always hang plants over the entire length of the balcony. It could be done in a equidistant form and from the parapet above. There is twin benefit of this step. One, you can get rid of bad view and secondly you will create illusion of space. In case, you have a very pathetic view from your balcony, use taller plants to conceal it.

If you have slightly artistic touch then go for two well-placed lamps or lanterns in balcony. This will give your balcony a designer look. You can also place lanterns in the walls. One attractive idea is to place brass sculpture in the balcony. It must be placed amidst green plants. This will give your balcony an entirely new look.

Monsoon is a great time to be indoors. Though the dust accumulates less during monsoon the biggest problem is that of condensation. If there are exterior cracks in the walls of your building, pre monsoon is the best time to set it right. The seepage gradually breaks in and also rusts the supporting beams which can cause damage to the walls. Another constant problem is the formation of molds and fungus. This can be taken care by ensuring moisture free environment and repairing the leakage.

Molds can be dangerous to small children and cause allergies. Try and keep the windows open and dust away the growth. Keep children away from the area. Chipped plasters also come off more easily during monsoon. Contractual labour can be employed with reputed experts in this field.

For closets the best option is to use a bit of pepper in a bowl to absorb the moisture. Another idea to the keep a plastic bag with cloves which also gives fragrance to the cupboard. Switch on the fan and keep the cupboards open for a while for some part of the day. Clothes also cause dampness which can be remedied with ironing. Store embroided clothes separately and air them well during the monsoon.

The shoe rack has to be inspected well during monsoon as it is the best place for breeding cobwebs and other insects. Damp shoes have to be dried before storing as leather encourages the formation of fungus. Blow dry the shoes with the hair dryer after the wetness is lessened. Store kitchen items in proper enclosed jars especially grains and flour.

Camphor is known for its moisture absorbing properties. Use them in the corners of the room. Monsoon again is not a time for elaborate flower arrangements. Use artificial flowers instead. Take care of indoor plants and keep a check on the water level accumulated on outdoor plants. Use plastic mats to replace the door rugs/mats and invest in a reliable pest control service to take care of unwelcome guests like ants and cockroaches.

While decorating and designing your living room, many interior decorators will have their own suggestions and opinions. It is however important to select colours, decorative items, and other furniture and furnishings that best suit your need and make you feel at home!

The colour of the walls that one chooses for the living room should preferably be light with neutral shades. This is because light colours can easily go with wooden furniture items and also makes the room airy, bright and youthful. Moreover, it also makes the room flexible because you can easily change the furniture in ace you want to at a later date without much bothering about the walls of your living room. Textured walls can also look quite attractive.

In case you are person who love colours, you can decorate your living room with different colored pillows, colorful curtains and colorful wall hangings. This will create a good balance to your living room especially with the neutral wall colours.

Also, positioning of the furniture is very important be it a large living room or a small one. Most interior designer suggest that it is better to divide a large living room in two or three seating areas but this entirely depends on your discretion because if you have a lot of guest coming to your house, then you may want a big seating arrangement in your living room. Small living rooms can be quite fun to decorate. Cozy corner bean bags can make your living room truly comfortable. You may also not want to invest in sofa sets and arrange a shamiana kind of seating with low lighting and pillows and floor beds.
