Luminous and enchanting, candles are a great way to spruce up the décor. If art is not your forte, pick some ready candles and a few scented candles. Get some glass bowls, add some color, cut some used wrapping paper and float a few candles. If you are in a mood to decorate, buy some huge candle sticks and candle stands too. There are wonderful hanging candle holders and make sure to use some hooks just close to the window sill. Decorate a candle and place the candles in the case akin to a lantern.

Kids art in candle too are loads of fun. Candles can be actually made at home with the help of melting wax and using a few decorative ideas. Candles make great house warming gifts too. Keep general candles around the house for a dinner and use some good special ones especially in orange, greens and red that are stocky and round on the dinner table. Get some stickers on the same for the kid’s room and keep the magic of candles for a special occasion. Candle décor is an interesting way to add life and light to a room.

During the day time too, candles are of immense decorative use in the house. Choose a corner to create a huge candle and melted-half-way ones too enhance the décor with their abstract shapes. Best out of waste ideas suit candle decoration and stick some left over shining trinkets or make a candle stand with plastics or glass jam bottles. Ideas galore and candles surely enhance your living room.

Ready candle stands come with altar candle stands or other decorative use. Go for the butterfly shaped candles or unique ones that look like a snow man or Santa. Children love the teddy shaped candles and the adorable kitty cat ones are real sweet. Reflection via candles is a splendid idea. Use a mirror facing a lit candle or keep a candle in front of a mirror. Keep changing the placings of the candles and get into a mood of innovation.

Candlescaping as it so called is a general piece of craft work and the ideas simply transform a simple candle into a masterpiece. Decorating tips for candles are easy and can be arranged along with some fresh flowers for a birthday or anniversary greeting. This could be real surprise if you can fill a room with the choicest flowers, lit candles and surprise your beau for a special evening.

This ancient practice has been followed by many urban households. Feng Shui places a great emphasis on plants. Considered as very auspicious, plants must be grown in the house to attain prosperity and peace. Wooden plants are specially advised in Feng Shui. Placing plants in the office is also very auspicious. The preferred directions are south, east or south-east. It helps in increasing luck in your career. Ideally, one should not have thorny plants in the interiors. They act as protective shields so they must be used outside the house. Place thorny plants like cactus slightly away from the door or in the balcony.

Couples with no kids should place a basket of fruits in the bedroom. In Feng Shui, fertility is symbolized by fruits especially pomegranates. Married couples should not have flowers in the bedroom. Never ever allow to have dried flowers in the house. They bring bad luck. Instead, one can use artificial flowers as they are supposed to bring luck. Bonsai plants are another no-no. They are growth impediment so must not be used inside or outside the house. Always try to have fresh flowers in the house as they bring good luck. Throw them out once they die. Plants must be trimmed on a regular basis. Don’t allow trees in your garden to overwhelm your house.

Lemons and oranges are strong symbols of fortune so they should be placed on the entrance. Do not use any Feng Shui symbols in bathroom as they can turn away the luck. Don’t sit with your back facing the door. Try placing a painting or image of mountain range on the wall behind your back. Use these tips and allow fortune to come your way.

Staircases can be done in elaborate styles. In case of a duplex, villa or a palatial house the staircase is another area which can enhance the interior. Designers are expert in this field and do a continuous research on the subject thereby creating new formats which remains an experience for them. Apart from the cosmetic appearance stairways need to have a sturdy impact as the usage is high.

Office staircases for mezzanine floors are also a wonderful way to maintain the formal tone. There are rounded designs, straight flight ups and also zig zag ones and others resemble the keys of a piano. The color must complement the room color. White obviously gives an impression of roomy appeal and maintaining white stairway is quite an ordeal.

Wooden finish on stairways must be of dependable quality and checks must be made to detect chipping. There are interesting stairway hangings in cloth, jute, textile and also wooden handicrafts that can be lined along the path where the interior is ethnic. Decoration for Diwali seems exquisite with diyas or tiny lamps all along the stairway. The walls adjacent to stairway can be lined with unique paintings or family portraits that are appealing to people visiting the house.

Random placing of metal or brass works like urns, Alladin lamp, lantern or faux pas treasure chest is another way to bring in a very traditional charm on a plain stairway. Banisters can have wooden works or decorations in the oriental concept which can be studded with shining works. Lining the stairway with lights is another decorative idea.

Staircases take you to the location of another floor or room and hence there is a necessity to already create an impression of what lies next. Carpets of good quality can be lined and it is necessary to maintain the quality with regular shampooing. Marble, wood, fiber and stone stairways are great many choices to choose from and aided with the services of a creative decorator, the living room can be highlighted in the best way.

Vastu Shastra is fast getting popularity in India as well as in many foreign countries. Talking about its origin, it is basically a Sanskrit word where vastu refers to nature or surrounding whereas Shastra is science. It is a gift from India to the world. Vastu Shastra deals with architecture and design. The focus here is on producing positive vibrations by adopting placement methods in plots, lands and buildings. This form of science aims to create healthy environment in the household. Based on laws of nature, most of the newly built houses in urban places are using Vastu to maintain the harmony inside the house.

Among the various things suggested by vastu, placement of furniture and water storage tanks, layout of the house, appropriate color scheme take the top spots. Vastu places special emphasis on water resources and topography of land. Apart from that, aspects like direction, placement, land size etc are also considered. Vastu Shastra derives its inspiration from five elements of nature; earth, water, fire, space and air. According to Vastu, all these five elements must be in harmony. According to vastu, man and nature are made of these five elements and therefore it is quite natural that one affects another. Factors like water and moon affects our system so we must give due importance to the synergy.

It is recommended to take help from principles of Vastu before purchasing our building any land and house. One must pay attention to shape of land, placement of doors and windows, placement of objects in the house, and Vedic elements. All these factors get a great help from vastu. It will also help you before embarking on your household journey.

The best accessory for the walls is a neat painting. The type of painting for each room has to be different in taste. Some times a single painting does much to add vibrancy to the room. Paintings reflect personality traits and also certain paintings enhance the positive energy in the room. The size of the painting is also dependent on the arrangement of furniture, lighting, height of the ceiling, color of the walls or position.

In case the walls are white or sunset yellow then the frame can do much to add to the importance of the room. Investing in good frames is a costly but important choice. There are ornate ones, ornamental designs and also remarkable wooden frames that bring out the oriental/ethnic charm. It is also important to not confuse the viewer with too many paintings.

Villa styled houses can have paintings of the village/farm types in the entrance or on the main door itself. As the rooms are spacious one can employ ethnic paintings by noted artists. The choice can be in the court type drama, series of Ganesha paintings or abstract art. Paintings for the dining area can also be classy with subtle hues that suit the ambience of the hall.

Paintings in the bedroom or kids room must befit the décor. The subtle hues must be relevant. The simple ones of flowers, petals or rough sketches in pastel or charcoal does much to retain the simplicity. Canvas arts are unique in their culture and one needs to look into the special exhibitions that are arranged in major studios. Signature art is truly found to be exclusive but investing in the same is a privileged item for an art lover.

There are Phad, Madhubani, Tanjore, Warli and other portrait paintings to chose from. Caricatures are perfect for kid’s doors and rooms as they reflect the enthusiastic nature that is easily identified with kids.

Living rooms, be it small, big, spacious, cluttered, are rooms where we actually spent a considerable amount of our time. Moreover people want to go that extra mile in designing and decorating their living room because it is one room where the visitors will be invited to meet. Hence a living room is supposed to be one of the best and the most beautiful rooms in the house.

A living room should ideally speak a thousand words. It means that the living room should reveal your personality. It should speak about the person you are. For example, I once visited a friends’ house and I was quite mesmerized with the collection of paintings that were put up on the wall. The colours of the painting, the themes of the painting and even the way they were arranged spoke a lot about the personality of the friend. Factors like lighting in the living room, the kind of curtains that are used and the furniture that is put up shows whether you are a person that prefers decoration or you want to keep things simple and organized or you would rather evoke the ‘messy’ feeling in the room, etc! You may wonder at the phrase ‘messy feeling to the room?’ Yes, sometimes picture perfect crisp clean looking rooms can give a very synthetic feeling to the room. In short the room looks life less. By the term ‘messy’ I do not mean unclean dirty living room – all I mean is that the word ‘lining room’ itself means a room that lives and it should evoke that life spirit.

Living rooms should evoke pleasurable happy feelings. Though it is entirely up to you how you want to decorate your living room. Use neutral light colours that can go well with the furniture of your room. It also makes it possible to change the furniture easily without changing the color scheme. Use space wisely.

Feng Sui is basically theory of placement, originated in ancient China. According to this theory, the way we place things make a major difference in our lives. In other words, our relationship with our environment is responsible for flow of positive or negative energy in the households. For example, our bedroom is the place most of our time so this place has the highest concentration of energy. Feng Sui refers to wind and water. In this article we will be talking about few effective and practical Feng Sui tips that will help in maintaining balance and flow of positive energy in your house.

Let’s start with noise factor. Noise disrupts harmony factor. One should not allow any sound in his bedroom. Sound coming from stereo, television, computer, or any sort of electronic items tends to produce noise so don’t keep these things in your bedroom. The reason behind this is your bedroom signifies relaxation place where you are away from your work whereas usage of gadgets tend to weigh you down. But many people are addicted to these gadgets and cannot do without it so for them it is recommended to place a soft curtain over these items.

Never ever have any sort of clutter in your bedroom. Clutter is known to create disorder and disrupt balance. They also cause loss of energy and thus you feel lethargic and depressed. Bedroom should always be as lean, simple and uncluttered as possible. Bed room is not your storage area so remove all the unnecessary items. Things like shoes, clothes, papers etc should be kept in a separate room. This will enhance relaxation and balance in your life.

How about adding a bit of charm and appeal factor to your dear home? We all like to have a house with proper functioning. But that makes your home no different from others. If you would like to differentiate your place you can do always do that with bit of creativity and ideas. And trust me; you don’t require huge sums of money for that!

Ok, let’s start with some fine candles. First of all you need to have an earthen bowl which you are going to place in the corner of the room or beside the entrance. In case you prefer glass bowl try placing it on middle of the room on a centre table. Just place few floating candles in the bowl after filling it with water. To make it even more appealing, place flower petals in it. Original flowers will be wonderful but if that’s not possible even artificial ones will do. Many urban households love to do this during evening.

Tubelights are a double edged sword. If they can brighten the kitchen and study, they can also make bedroom and living room look less appealing. Replace them with lamps and feel the difference. Chandelier is also an option but compared to lampshades they are expensive. The thing about lamps is, they can give you this warm and cozy feel. If the color scheme is right, lampshades are magical.

It may appear tempting to have all the decorative items in one go but that will not be such a prudent idea. What you buy and use may not fit your taste so it’s better to pick one by one, try out things and slowly build up your collectibles. Lastly, Using lanterns and chimes will also provide much envious charm to your house.

Home plants are much about radiating positive energy.
Growth is related to nourishment and caring. This is also true about plants. Initially the plants may require direct sunshine and as they emerge healthy they will suitably adjust to the indoor temperature. Bonsai plants are excellent for indoor décor as they have an artistic finish to their appearance. One can choose among bamboo shoots, thistles and also Camellia to name a few.
