Painting the ceiling of your home is as important as painting any other part of your house. It can appear simple and easy but it is not as easy as it looks. Ceiling painting requires care and consideration along with proper planning on your behalf. If done poorly, it can spoil the look of your entire home. Painting the ceiling in the proper manner is very crucial in making your household presentable. There are high chances of ruining the furniture or carpet if painting of your ceiling is ill-planned. So, let’s have a look at some of the important tips for ceiling painting.

The first thing that you need to do is to prepare your room before the painting begins. It is often an ignored part that can lead of wastage of resources. You would not like to clean up the mess afterwards. Move all your furniture to other room and arrange plastic drop cloth or canvas drop cloth to put over the floor. Place it properly covering the entire floor or base boards. Also remove all the ceiling fixtures and mirrors or wall arts etc to save them from any painting spillover.

Take a hard look at the surface and get rid of any cobwebs or surface dirt. Surface must be wiped a soft cloth. The ceiling can have water stains or rough patches etc. use right patching compounds before painting and allow them to dry. Use texture to give desired effect to the ceiling. In case of stains, use brush or stain blocker first. Primer will come handy in making the paint roll in a smooth manner. Always use good quality paint. Using these tips will make your painting job easier and comfortable.

Houseplants can be wonderfully used to decorate your home. On one hand, it can highlight the best features of your home decoration and at the same time, it can also hide the problem areas that you won’t like to share with the world. Houseplants provide style and color to your home and add a dash of extra flavor. One can use them in a number of ways. Houseplants can also used to highlight a certain decorative element in your room.

Let’s talk about some of the problem areas in your home that you want to disguise. Suppose you have some issues with your ceiling then you can always hang a row of plants in a basket so that people don’t focus beyond these rows of plants. Plant options like Philodendron or Tradescantia can be brilliant options for this purpose. Similarly, if the view outside the window irritates you then you can use several plantings to cover the problem area. You can also use pedestals or shelving to create different heights. Basket containing the plant must look impressive. Many people smartly use unused places to add a houseplant like a fireplace that hasn’t been in a long time. It can help in enhancing the décor of the room.

To make your home more attractive, you should use a large plant or several houseplants grouped together. Options can range from Ficus Benjamina to Howeia Foresteriana. You can use the basket that blends with your room’s color scheme. These plants can act as strong focal points in your home. Those having monochromatic look often resort to using Hippeastrum, Peacock plant or flowering Azalea for maximum effect.

While selecting the houseplants make sure that, it fits the style of your room. Like if your home is decorated in Spanish or Mediterranean style, you should go for Bamboo plant or Dizgotheca Elegantissima plants that will provide a completely new look to your home. One popular choice is of Bonsai Plants or white orchids that provide ancient feel. Lavendar or Tolmiea Menziesii plants are ideal for Victorian style decoration.

Furniture tends to lose their lustre over time. Hence polishing wood furniture pieces become important. Many a time, people also ill-treat furniture and its fabrics. This is most true in case of dining room furniture. However, with proper care and cleaning, furniture pieces can be efficiently maintained over the years.

Some people are concious about the space allocation and utilization in their homes keeping in mind that they will need to be cleaned and maintained regularly. Such is the planning that goes into designing a good home.

Furniture which is usually made of wood and consists of the bed, drawers, side tables, chests, mirror frames needs proper care. Mirror pieces need dry cleaning. Metal pieces should be cleaned twice once with a damp cloth and then with a dry one. Wooden and metal beds both can be cleaned regularly with a damp cotton cloth to wipe off the dust settled on them. Wooden beds may need a polish after some years to make the wood shine.

One should have indoor fountains pieces in one’s home as they act as natural air purifiers. As water circulates through the fountain, the dust and pollutants in the air are pulled out. The soothing sound of flowing water makes the environment calm and peaceful.

Side table and chests should be cleaned and wiped with a dry or a moist cotton cloth daily. This ensures that the tables do not remain dusty. In case of wooden side tables, one may need to get them polished after some time so that the shine and the glow of the wood are maintained. Special cleaning is required for bedroom for kids, as this is one room that may get dirty the most. Make sure that the furniture you select is easy to clean and does not have sharp edges.

Who wouldn’t love a house surrounded by lush green trees and flowers spread all around? In fact, that’s the dream of many a person who would give a hand or two to live in such houses and situations. But then, we also have to cater to growing population and decreasing space. Now, owning such houses are more like a mere fallacy and perhaps only the rich and luxurious can avail such facilities. Now a day, what we have is apartments and flats with just balconies, in the name of outdoor space. Well, you cannot do much in such conditions but remember you always have the option of bringing nature indoors, by keeping indoor plants. These plants will not only bring some freshness in your house but also enliven the ambience.

So now that you have decided to go for indoor plants, it’s high time we talk about how to take care of them. Most of the indoor plants are quite okay with normal temperature fluctuation but they also grow at faster rate in cooler climate. So what you need to do is to maintain a cooler temperature at night so that plants grow appropriately. Ideally, night temperature should be kept 10 to 15 degrees lower than the day temperature.

Try not to have excessively low or high temperatures because that will adversely affect the plant growth. Indoor plants should have little exposure to light in an indirect way. You can also arrange for artificial sources of lighting. You will also need to rotate indoor plants on a regular basis so that all the parts receive equal amount of light. Bring your home plants outside once in every 15 days for fresh air. While watering your indoor plants, maintain the balance.

Decoration does involve some tricks that not everyone is aware of. Using these tricks you can make your house look beautiful. One of the basic advantages of using these tricks are you can make your house look larger than they really are. Professionals in the interior decoration field commonly use these tricks so satiate different needs. The problem faced by different house owners is small space. One does not really have too many options when it comes to space constraint faced by house owners in urban cities. Add to that stratospheric cost of real estate and not everyone can afford to make wholesome changes in the household. Some common problems faced are narrow rooms, low ceilings and insufficient light etc. But then, there is option of optical illusion.

Most of the apartments have this problem of low ceilings. If somehow, you can manage to make your ceiling appear higher than they actually are, you will feel more space in the house. So how to do that? Start with selecting appropriate color for the ceiling. Use white color around your ceiling. To those who are interested in cost cutting as well, just paint six inches of the top of your walls with white. You will be surprised to find your ceiling appear higher.

Now coming to the next common problem of small room size, we also have a solution for this. Just paint one wall darker than the rest of the walls. If you are concerned about your bedroom then try placing wall to wall cupboards along one of the walls. Try going for low lying furniture. This will make your home look more spacious and aesthetic as well. Use these tricks and make your space larger than it actually is.

With the pace of population that is flocking to cities, it is hard to get a house that has abundance of space unless you have deep pockets. Many people with houses in urban areas complain of having small outdoor area. But then you can’t really increase the space at your will but you can always make it look wonderful and beautiful. And mind it; it is not expensive at all. Turning your small balcony into a beautiful place is quite economical and all that you require is few lamps and some plants. Having bare balconies is a crime as far as decoration is concerned. You can always make it look spectacular only if you desire and put into a small effort.

Start with the door. Change your wooden door to glass door leading into the balcony. The advantage of using this method is that it helps in generating illusion of space and at the same time you don’t really have to enclose the space. Small balconies are not a curse if used in a proper way. Now that you have installed the glass balcony, focus on decorating the balcony. Check if your balcony gives you a good overview. If not mostly because in large cities it is not really possible for everyone to have a nice view from a small balcony because of congestion. Try hanging plants over the entire length of the balcony in little round pots. Make sure all these pots are kept at equidistance from each other. Hanging plants offers you twin benefits. First, it conceals the bad view and secondly it gives the illusion of more space. Point to be noted here is if the view is totally unacceptable then try using taller plants. That will help in concealing the view completely. Alternatively you can also use shining brass sculpture and one or two well placed lamps.

But most often than not, we are responsible for amassing the clutter. If you look closely there are several items in your household that you use or more specifically you don’t need. You just have to give a close eye at your house and you will find more than one thing need to be got rid of. It will also help in making your house look beautiful and spacious. Actually clearing the clutter is kind of thankless job. You can never actually get rid of it. Items like shoes, clothes, books, toys etc keep collecting in your house and you don’t get rid of it that it might be of some use in the future. Well, you can’t really avoid the mess but you can always clear the clutter in a reducing fashion.

One of the basic tricks of clearing the clutter is to use 3 years formula. This rule says, if you have not used a thing for last three years, there are high chances of you not needing it ever. Now, that really makes things simpler. The problem with reducing clutter is we tend to give too much weightage to old stuffs like clothes and magazines thinking that we may need them later. But that later never comes. If we try to clean the mess, we will come across several such materials that haven’t been used for years and we can easily dispose them.

Start with making a list of things you need to get rid of. Begin with pare like documents, letters, paper, magazines etc. just give these things to your ‘kabadiwallah’. Books that have not been used for years can be used for donating to libraries. You will get rid of them and will also be generous to libraries that can donate these books to needy students. It’s difficult to part ways with your books but then one should learn to do it. Try not using polythene bags ad instead of that use jute made or some other disposable paper bags clothes.

Wood floors sell like hot cakes. Many people prefer wooden floors because of expense factor and low maintenance element. Concrete flooring has always remained in vogue but wood floor has its own beauty. It changes the appearance of the house and gives a vintage beauty to the whole house. Quite easy to maintain, wood floors can never go out of the style. If you prefer wooden flooring, you won’t need to look after it continuously. However, they do require cleaning on a regular basis like every other thing but the time consumed will be much lesser than concrete flooring.

You will need to find out the exact finishing of the floor. There are different types of finishes. If it is surface-sealed then nothing like that. The beauty of this surface is their being water and stain-resistant. They require very less maintenance and all you need to do is to sweep and mop the floor. In many cases, floor is untreated. In such case, one needs to care it like the oiled ones. Try not to use too much of water because these floors are not very good at handling moisture. In case, floor is oiled then opt for floor cleaners and clean them with paste or liquid wax.

Use a soft bristled broom for daily cleaning. Once a week, try using vacuum cleaner. But be careful while using it as it can leave scratch marks. Alternatively, you can make your own homemade cleaning product. All you need to do is to half a cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Use dry damp mop for spilled water. Try not to wear high heeled shoes and don’t drag furniture because of possiblity of scratch issues.
