Living rooms, be it small, big, spacious, cluttered, are rooms where we actually spent a considerable amount of our time. Moreover people want to go that extra mile in designing and decorating their living room because it is one room where the visitors will be invited to meet. Hence a living room is supposed to be one of the best and the most beautiful rooms in the house.

A living room should ideally speak a thousand words. It means that the living room should reveal your personality. It should speak about the person you are. For example, I once visited a friends’ house and I was quite mesmerized with the collection of paintings that were put up on the wall. The colours of the painting, the themes of the painting and even the way they were arranged spoke a lot about the personality of the friend. Factors like lighting in the living room, the kind of curtains that are used and the furniture that is put up shows whether you are a person that prefers decoration or you want to keep things simple and organized or you would rather evoke the ‘messy’ feeling in the room, etc! You may wonder at the phrase ‘messy feeling to the room?’ Yes, sometimes picture perfect crisp clean looking rooms can give a very synthetic feeling to the room. In short the room looks life less. By the term ‘messy’ I do not mean unclean dirty living room – all I mean is that the word ‘lining room’ itself means a room that lives and it should evoke that life spirit.

Living rooms should evoke pleasurable happy feelings. Though it is entirely up to you how you want to decorate your living room.  Use neutral light colours that can go well with the furniture of your room. It also makes it possible to change the furniture easily without changing the color scheme. Use space wisely.

Effectiveness of Interior decoration depends upon a lot of inter-related factors. One slight mismatch and all the hard work of yours can go to ashes. So it is always advised to give proper attention to each and every part while decorating your home. One of the small factors that are often ignored but very crucial is lighting. Don’t just take it as another regular part of the decoration. Give it significant importance because it matters a lot in the overall appearance of your house.

Tubelights are ubiquitous phenomenon in almost all the urban households. But do they look beautiful? Or do they help in decoration? Answer is straight no! it makes the room look characterless. But they help in conserving electricity so why not use them in places like bathroom and toilet? If you have to use lights in the main room try using light with dimmers. They offer you great option of reducing or increasing the brightness as per your requirements. Dim light also proves very crucial in increasing the ambience effect. You can also change it during the times of reading or watching TV.  And yes, they totally enhance the overall look of the room.

Lamps are very effective in family room or living room. You can place them near sofas. Having few photo frames around lamps will further add to the atmosphere. If you are an art connoisseur you must be fond of having paintings on your wall. In that case, try using spot lighting above the paintings and check the difference. You will be delighted.

Lastly, your home will look even more beautiful if you tinker around with natural lighting. That’s the best form of light and it adds certain character to the house. Natural light not only brings freshness to the home but also gives it a happy feel.
