minimalismThis style of decoration stresses on three words: plain, simple and elegant. One of the important features of minimalism is plain surfaces. Minimalism uses monochromatic colours especially on building surfaces and other basic elements. Light colours take on the palette in this style. The furniture is simple, box like, without any detailing. This style is totally opposite to baroque. Minimalism is generally used in wide spaces as this can truly bring out the features of this style. Wide dining rooms, long galleries, and spacious halls can make this style truly spectacular. Tones and shades of brown and rich pearly whites are often used in minimalism. One of the reasons people prefer using minimalism style is because this clear spacious look gives one a relaxing and distressing ambience.

Lighting is very important in minimalism. Cool natural bright lights are the best for this design styles. A lot of lights vertically sweeping over the white walls are a good lighting method for this style. Generally, dark wooden floor complements minimalist style. Also, beige or brown sofas and related furniture looks best with white or cream walls. Make the use of colours to their minimum. Avoid detailing. You can however put up modern art paintings on the wall to make the atmosphere lively. Choose light colored cream and white based curtains. Do not use multi-colored and textured curtains or carpets. Use combinations and designs that complement each other. Simplicity is the key to minimalism.

How to hang artworks?

1-14-hang-artwork-1I personally love to put up artworks on walls. It adds a great amount of charm and mystery to your home. Visitors and guests often spend a lot of time looking at the artwork in your home and somewhere paintings are also a reflection of your own self so a manifestation of that can be a great delight to the eyes as well as to the mind. However, one of the common queries is how high should you hang a piece of artwork. We also want to know about the art of arranging a collection of paintings together on the wall artistically.

Artworks are usually hung such that the centre of the picture is at the eye level. However, this rule does not apply to all pieces of artwork.  You may want to hang a painting near a sofa – what then? Should you hang it at the eye level? No. Hence the answer to this is – there is no fixed rule on hanging artwork.

Starting from the floor you can hang your painting over and above 60 inches of the wall. In case of a single painting, you can hang them at the centre of the wall and in case of more, you can think of innovative techniques to hang them. You can hang them in a triangular style or even all three in a row. What is important is that you should maintain the eye movement. The viewer should not get confused as to where he or she is supposed to look. Also, the paintings should complement each other if they are hung on the same wall.

Also, a painting is a silent talker. Everything that is around the painting relates to the piece and vice versa. Hence, you should complement the things that are around the painting. For example, if you are putting up an artwork on one wall, do not put photos on another one.
