One of the basic steps you need to take is to change all the incandescent bulbs in the house with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). This greatly helps in conserving energy. People might complain about CFLs being expensive but the truth is they use less energy and provide more light. As far as longetivity is concerned these bulbs are more reliable and last up to 8-10 times longer than regular bulbs. Another recommended step is to use clothesline to dry your washed clothes instead of drier. Remember, washing machines take lot of power so try using them only when you have full load of clothes.

The filters of your air conditioners need to be cleaned on a regular basis. This helps in reducing power consumption and also provides efficient room cooling. While heating water, try keeping temperature of the boiler to 60 degree C. This is another power saving tip.
