Office Workstation Designs
There are many ways and options to design a comfortable and convenient workstation. The very first step to designing an office is to consider the area of the place, number of employees, kind of work, and equipments that are to be placed in the workstation. This greatly helps in deciding the space that can be accommodated for employee work and other activities.
The most important equipment in every office belonging to any industry is computers. No matter what kind of industry, no matter what kind of work, computers are the basic necessity and employees spend most of their job hours working on computers. With this it becomes really important to design the office in a way that all the computer components as well as the chair are ergonomically efficient.
When placing a computer in the cubicle or on the desk, the keyboard should be positioned in a way that the wrists stay straight and elbows at a 90 degree angle while working. If the keyboard is placed too high or low, it is likely to cause discomfort and fatigue. Then is the mouse of the computer that should be placed close to the user in a way that it can be freely moved on the desk. Even the shape and size of the mouse should be considered before making the final purchase. After that the placement of monitor plays a key role to avoid any kind of discomfort in terms of eye strain and neck problems. The viewing distance should be in the range of 45 to 65 cms to avoid any kind of strain on eyes. It should be placed in a manner that the neck of the user stays neutral. Apart from that, the chair should be height adjustable so as to provide a comfortable seating position. The employee should be able to adjust the seating position and height according to his or her requirement. Office chairs should be ergonomically designed to offer higher comfort, increased productivity, and easy task accomplishment. Only when the computer is set at a perfect height and position, along with an ergonomically designed chair, employees can work effectively and productively.
Apart from the ergonomic office design, another important criterion of creating a workstation layout is the lighting. Lighting plays an integral role while working with computers, files, and books the whole day. Be it natural light or the any other sources of light, it is very important to maintain optimum light levels. Glare can be very harmful to eyes and can cause discomfort. Light absorbing curtains, overhead lights, and glass antiglare screens are the best ways to reduce glare and provide a comfortable and healthy workstation.
